Louise and Jesse from BCV went on a foray for mushrooms last weekend with the help of some knowledgable members of the Tourist Club. Hiking along Cataract Falls in Marin, the group found both edible and inedible mushrooms growing along the trail.
Honey mushrooms and oyster mushrooms were picked to be taken home and eaten. Mushrooms are best found in Northern California in the months from November to March, and especially right after heavy rains. It goes without saying that unless you are positive of the mushroom you just picked, you probably shouldn’t eat it…. If you want to learn more about mushrooms, go on a guided foray, or become more involved in the world of mushrooms, The Mycological Society of San Francisco (MSSF) is the epicenter of it all.
